During the 1920's and 30's South African swimming benefited from the innovation and enthusiasm of the colourful Pretoria based coach Jimmy Green, who was the Superintendent at the Pretoria baths. He coached Jenny Maakal to a 440m freestyle bronze medal at the 1932 Olympic Games, while teaching and coaching all over South Africa.

Many of the articles shown here are from his own scrapbook - which was rescued when his office at the old Pretoria baths burnt down. They date from 1923 to the 1940's. Provided by his daughter.
