Age Group Swimming

Swimming in South Africa was significantly affected by the introduction of  the American Age Swimming Group system late 1960's. The annual national championships followed the British model of Junior Championships - and a separate Senior Championships, with separate records.

In South Africa age group swimming took place during the summer months, with monthly age group galas being held. The groups were ten and under, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, and 16 and over.
