Eastern Transvaal Schools

The Eastern Transvaal includes Lowveld schools in Nelspruit and Malelane and Highveld schools from Boksburg and Benoni.

The lowveld of the Eastern Transvaal province enjoys a warm climate, and it contains many schools with a long tradition of swimming excellence. The N4 highway is the main road from the Witwatersand to Mozambique, with Witbank and Nelspruit as its main centre to the east, as well as Ermelo, Lydenburg, Bethal and Volksrus further south. Boksburg, Benoni, Brakpan and Germiston are well known centres close to Johannesburg in the west of the province. Many schools have their own swimming pools, and a number of post-1994 private schools have sprung up, usually with excellent facilities. Today nelspruit aslo as its own Nelspruit Swimming Academy. local schools include Uplands has established themselves as the top swimming school in the province with resounding success at both the annual Top School’s and Inter High Galas. Many of our swimmers have represented Mpumalanga at various Interprovincial galas. Swimmers are also afforded the opportunity to represent their club at National Levels.and Nelspruit Laerskool, as well as Bergvlam Hoërskool, which produces to swimmers despite not having its own pool. 

 

 

The town of Nelspruit is home to the van riebeeck swimming pool, as well as the Nelspruit Hoërskool, which  boast great swimming facilities, as well as strong teams. Nelspruit Laerskool also has a weel used swimming pool. 

Toe ‘n paar van NHS se top-swemmers einde 2015 so puik by die SA-skolekampioenskappe gevaar het, was die tekens daar dat NHS vanjaar ‘n krag by die jaarlikse interskole-gala sou wees. Die opgewondenheid was baie hoog toe die Nellies verlede Woensdag die ‘tradisionele’ sterk Laeveld-swemskole (Uplands College, Penryn College, Curro en Rob Ferreira) aangedurf het. Die verwagtinge was hoog , maar die beroemde Nellie-guts was weer in hoogste versnelling ! NHS slaag, na 20 jaar, weer daarin om as skole-kampioen gekroon te word – en wys daarmee dat NHS se sportmanne en -vroue ook wat swem betref, met die bestes kan saamgesels.

Uplands se meisies (373 punte) het die Nellies (396) opdraande gegee, maar NHS se seuns was met 440.5 punte, heeltemal te sterk vir die manne van Witrivier (Uplands – 359.5). Uiteindelik wen NHS die jaarlikse gala met 890.5 punte, gevolg deur Uplands (784.5), Penryn (580), Curro (466), Rob Ferreira (411), Bergvlam (196) en Barberton (78). Jetro Piso is as Junior Victor Ludorum vir 2016 aangewys, terwyl Skye Munro (Junior) en Lize-Marie Drummond (senior) die Victrix-trofees ingepalm het.

Melelane Primary School.


Riverview Prep School is a Christian English medium school that opened its doors in 1977. It's campus outside Nelspruit boasts a 25m swimming pool. 

In October 2016 Riverview Prep School hosted Malelane, Bergland, Komatipoort Akademie, St Peter’s and Nelspruit Primary for the first league swimming gala. This is the first time local schools can compete in structured leagues, which were put in place by Mpumalanga Swimming. Schools were positioned in a league according to individual performances at the Top Schools gala last year, as well as size.


LAerskool Malelane has its own 25m swimming pool, and competes in local events.


In 1928 Uplands Preparatory School, a co-educational Anglican school, first opened its doors as a small farm school, and Uplands College that opened in 1998 on a large campus north of White River. Both schools have  25m swimming pools. Uplands has established themselves as the top swimming school in the province with resounding success at both the annual Top School’s and Inter High Galas. Many of their swimmers have represented Mpumalanga at various Interprovincial galas.
