The earliets pool in East London was a salt water venue named after a famous shipwreck on the same site - the Orient Baths. It was used to host the SA Swimming championships in 1927, 1938 and again in 1958.
Later the municipality built a 50m outdoor facility, named for the town's first olympic gold medallist Joan Harrison. This pool is regularly used for national events.
